Wednesday's Doings

I didn't have to go anywhere this morning, so I was able to sleep in a bit.  As a result, I didn't need to take a nap in the afternoon, even though I lay down to see if I could sleep.

I spent most of the day working on office work.  I received another work assignment rather late last night (just before 10:00 p.m.), which I acknowledged receiving around 10:20 p.m.  One of the benefits of working from home is there is no set start time.  One of the downsides of working from home is there is no set end time!

After I finished today's office work, I attended to a stack of my own papers that had piled up.  It was mostly filing, but I tried to toss as much of it as I could.  I think I was able to toss about half of it.  I now have one more stack of papers to sort through and file!

In the evening, I put water to the back garden and picked another handful of ripe cherry guavas to eat.  I also took a short walk around the block.

Breakfast was a banana and a piece of toast with cheese.  Lunch was rice with chicken, bell peppers, onions and carrots - it was some of what my neighbor had brought me which I had frozen.  I also ate a mandarin orange for dessert.  I wasn't hungry for dinner, so I had a nutritional drink, instead.

One of the things I was told to avoid due to chemo treatments was going out in public.  Because the chemo compromised my immune system and made me vulnerable to germs.  As a result, I have not gone grocery shopping.  My daughter had been doing my shopping for me, but, she couldn't shop for fresh produce the last time she was home because she herself got sick.  Then, she didn't come home last weekend and she won't be coming home this weekend, either.  I've been managing with whatever I had in the fridge and freezer, but I am coming to the end of my loaf of bread and it would be nice to have more fruits and vegetables.  I do have some frozen bread dough in the freezer and I thought of making a loaf of bread using that, or making some bread from scratch.  But, instead, today, I called one of my cousins and asked her to pick up a loaf of bread for me when she goes grocery shopping next.  Then, I called a friend of mine and asked her to pick up some bananas and some vegetables for me, when she goes grocery shopping this weekend.  I have my reasons for asking different people to pick up different things, but mostly, it's so that I don't impose on any one person, in terms of time and effort.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Being able to work from home
- Getting through another pile of accumulated paperwork
- Being able to call on family and friends for favors such as going grocery shopping for me
- More fruit from the garden
- Video chatting with daughter

How was your day?

  1. I am glad people can pick stuff up for you - it is really important that you take care of yourself! I love hearing about and seeing your garden. I have never even seen a guava in real life (well, they do have them in the shops in town/on the market but I've never thought, look, there's a guava!). Thank you so much for sharing x

    1. Yes, I, too, am grateful that people can pick up stuff for me. However, I do wish more of our grocery stores offered deliveries. That would have been a pricier option but so convenient. I would not have had to bother anyone.

I am glad you are not bored with all my talk about the garden. I can go on about it at length, at times! My mother was the real gardener, though. She spent hours in the garden, planting and nurturing her plants along. I'm more of a "I'll plant you, but it's up to you to grow" sort of gardener!

  2. Bless, I am so proud you ask the 2 people to pick up grocery items for you.. I was worrying about you not being able to get groceries since daughter cant come this weekend. I sure wish you were next door to me, I would gladly go and buy groderies for you and go to every store you needed me too.. no problem.. And I know your friends and relatives feel the same way..But, I understand, I hate to ask anyone to do things for me too.. hugs to you.
Your garden is wonderful.. Would love to get fresh oranges and lemons off the trees. We do have peaches/pears and plums at the house we are moving too. I am looking forward to them.
    Have a great week.

    1. Thanks, Judy. I am OK for the most part and would have been fine if daughter had been able to buy some fresh produce that last weekend she was home.

Peaches, pears and plums will be lovely - hope you'll have enough to freeze and preserve as well as eat fresh.

Hope the getting ready for the move is coming along well. I imagine you are busy with packing up and getting the house ready.

      Have a blessed week, Judy.

    3. Glad to hear, Judy. It must be quite chaotic and tiring, but exciting at the same time. At least you can move things a little at a time to the new place and don't have to wait for anyone to move out before you move in!

Great that you got the garden planted! A lot of work, but worth it. I hope you have a lovely, bountiful harvest!

  3. We all love our independence, don't we? I'm sure I would also find it hard to ask favours unless it was important, like food or medications.
Do keep up the gardening "show and tell", Bless! Some of us may enjoy our own plants and fruits but they are not the same kind as you have, and it is so neat to see photos of them actually growing, rather than just seeing them in the store.

    1. I have always prided myself in being able to do for myself, so, asking others for help is difficult. But I am learning!

OK, will definitely continue with the gardening "show and tell". I like sharing my little corner of the world with others. :)

  4. It is great you are able to have people pick things up for you. And I imagine working from home and not having to have set hours is great too!

My Wednesday started awful, drove over an hour to my son's Urologist just to be told he wouldn't be there till next month. They never called to reschedule us or anything so I was very upset. My son does not handle being strapped down in his seat for long too well, so it wasn't a fun car ride. At the end of the day we did finally make progress on our privacy fence, so that's good.

    1. Oh, Jess, I am so sorry you had to make that long drive for nothing! How inconsiderate of them that they didn't call to let you know or reschedule! Maybe, from now on, you should call them the day before to make sure you won't have another wasted trip.

Glad you made progress on your privacy fence, though.

  5. I often wish I lived near you so I could pick things up for you. I'm glad that you do have some people that can do that for you. When I was dealing with cancer the hardest part for me was having to ask people to help me out but I found that most people I asked were very gracious and did not mind doing as much as I minded having to ask.

    1. Dawn, that is very sweet of you! Yes, you are right; most people are very obliging when asked. It's just that I don't like to ask; I feel I am imposing on them. I know what I'd do if tables were reversed - I'd call and offer: I'll be going to the store today, do you need anything? A slightly different approach, I think.
